May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, “The Lord be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.”
Psalm 35:27 NIV
Psalm 35:27 closes with a phrase that deserves our full attention. The psalmist declares: “The LORD be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.” God delights in your well-being. Not merely tolerates it, not simply permits it — he genuinely delights in it. That single truth, rightly understood, changes the way we wait on God.
What It Means That God Delights in Your Well-Being
This description of God is rich with warmth. He is not a distant overseer watching from afar. Rather, He is a Father who is glad when His servant is safe. He is happy when His servant has peace. Furthermore, He wants his servant to be secure — and He takes real pleasure when that security is a reality.
God makes everything work together for good for His servants. He wants what is best for them. Indeed, God delights in your well-being, and this truth makes it His priority. So this is not a distant hope — He pursues it actively and without delay.
A God Who Will Not Relent
Psalm 35:27 does not present a passive God who merely wishes things would work out. Instead, it reveals a God who will make every effort to see His servant flourish. He will not stop until He has accomplished the desire of His heart in your life. He will not relent. Rather, He will not rest until peace and wellness are your lived reality.
This is therefore a glorious and certain hope for every believer. Whatever you are going through right now, do not need to lose heart. If you have not yet arrived at the place God desires, take courage. God has not forgotten you. He has not abandoned you.
Living It Out
Put your hope in God, because what He wants for you is nothing but the best. God delights in your well-being, and that delight will ultimately bear fruit. Wait on Him, trust Him, and He will do what He desires.
