When Life Feels Like Too Much: Run to God

A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”

2 Kings 4:1 NKJV

There are moments in life when everything feels overwhelming. When the weight of responsibilities, loss, and uncertainty presses so heavily that you begin to wonder if you can go on. In those moments, life does not ask politely; instead, it demands more than you feel able to give.

You look into your life and realise something is missing. Strength seems insufficient, resources appear limited, and answers feel far away. Consequently, you begin to ask difficult questions. What do you do when life gives you more than you can handle? Where do you turn when it seems there is nowhere left to go?

Sometimes, life falls apart without warning. You may be dealing with loss, struggling with lack, or facing limitations that make no sense. Moreover, the confusion can be just as painful as the circumstance itself. You try to understand what is happening, yet clarity does not come.

Scripture gives us a powerful picture in 2 Kings 4:1. We meet a widow whose story begins with tragedy. Her husband, a man who feared God, had died. However, his death was not the only burden she carried. She was in debt, and creditors had come, threatening to take her sons as slaves.

This was more than a financial crisis; it was a moment of complete desperation. Everything that could go wrong seemed to be happening at once. She had lost her covering, her provision, and now faced losing her children. Truly, life had demanded more than she could handle.

Yet, in that breaking point, she made a defining decision. She ran to Elisha. That choice is not accidental; it is instructive. When life becomes overwhelming, the first and most important response is not panic, withdrawal, or despair. Instead, it is to run to God.

You must run to God when things fall apart. You must cry out to Him when the burden feels too heavy. Furthermore, you must pour out your heart before Him, because He is the only One who truly understands and is able to help.

Often, we try to figure things out on our own first. However, this story reminds us that divine help is not a last resort; it is the first response. When it feels like you are missing out, when it seems like what you have is not enough, that is precisely the moment to turn to God.

God does not ignore desperation; He responds to it. He meets you in your lack, speaks into your confusion, and provides direction in your uncertainty. Therefore, your breaking point can become the very place where divine intervention begins.

Living It Out

Running to God must become your instinct, not your afterthought. This means building a habit of prayer even before crisis comes, so that when challenges arise, your heart naturally turns to Him. In moments of pressure, choose to pause and speak to God honestly about how you feel, trusting that He listens and cares. Additionally, anchor yourself in His Word, because it provides clarity when your emotions feel overwhelming. Even when answers do not come immediately, remain in His presence, because guidance often unfolds progressively. As you continue to trust Him, you will discover that what seemed like “not enough” in your hands becomes more than enough in His.

In the end, the question is not whether life will demand too much. It will. The real question is where you will run when it does. When life feels like too much, do not collapse under the weight, run to God, because He is your help in every moment of need.
