When God Unveils Himself: From Slavery to Glory

The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.

Exodus‬ ‭14‬:‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Have you ever wondered why God does what He does? Why does He allow trials and tribulations in our lives? Why does He intervene in miraculous ways at times and sometimes seem silent? Imagine a nation enslaved, yearning for freedom, yet trapped under the iron fist of a seemingly invincible power. This is the backdrop of Exodus, a story etched in history and echoing in our hearts. Amidst the despair, a remarkable truth unveils itself: God’s grand purpose often unfolds in the crucible of human suffering. His interventions extend beyond mere deliverance; they reveal His name and inscribe His glory upon the very fabric of existence. Exodus whispers a profound message – God’s actions aren’t mere interventions, but divine unveiling.

Remember Pharaoh’s arrogant defiance? He scoffed at the God of the Hebrews, clinging to his power and idols. However, in Exodus 7:5, God declares, “And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.” Here, liberation is not merely an act of compassion, but a deliberate revelation. Pharaoh and his people, steeped in their deities, are about to witness the power of the one true God.

Then comes the iconic parting of the Red Sea in Exodus 14:18. The escape route becomes a divine stage, where the might of Pharaoh’s army crumbles before the awesome power of the Lord. This public display is not for the Israelites alone; it serves as a stark reminder to the Egyptians, and to all who witness it, of who truly holds dominion over life and death. This wasn’t just about freedom; it was about recognition. A testament to the truth that God can do what He says He will do, no man can stop Him.

When God steps in, He doesn’t simply display might but meticulously unveils His character and power. And what He does, He does for His glory. These moments in Exodus are not merely historical events but invitations for us to encounter God’s glory. So, as we avail ourselves for His use, commissioned and empowered by Him, let’s allow Him to the grand stage. God uses the moments of deepest human struggle to proclaim, “Know that I am the Lord!”

Remember, God desires to be known. He longs to reveal His power, love, and faithfulness in our lives, even amidst our own struggles.
