For we walk by faith [we regulate our lives and conduct ourselves by our conviction or belief respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, with trust and holy fervour; thus we walk] not by sight or appearance.
2 Corinthians 5:7 AMPC
The word ‘walk’ as found in Colossians 2:6 where we took our bearing on learning how to walk in union with Christ, is often used for the Christian life. It speaks of action and progress. This truth is important for us to keep in mind. Our walking in union with Christ must be propelled by faith.
You cannot walk and remain in the same place, so it is with Christian life. Therefore, we can see that the faith we are considering is that which produces action – it is not passive. It is an intentional, purposeful journey filled with trust. It is that which gears us to regulate and conduct ourselves in a progressive manner in our union with Christ. This is such that what we learn of Him, we also put into action.
Logical reasoning, facts and figures are not sufficient in walking with God. We must always be willing and ready to go beyond what we see. We should also have faith in the Lord Jesus. This is so that we can truly walk in union with Him. God does not keep company with the double minded; but such that completely depend on Him through their faith. Walking with Christ is a daily choice to see the world through the lens of faith, not limited by our physical senses. Our faith is the driving force behind our actions, motivating us to live according to God’s principles. We may not always understand God’s ways, but our faith assures us that He is always working for our good.
But the just shall live by faith [My righteous servant shall live by his conviction respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, and holy fervour born of faith and conjoined with it]; and if he draws back and shrinks in fear, My soul has no delight or pleasure in him.
Hebrews 10:30 AMPC
As we continue in our journey with the Lord, the devil may come with lies and deceitfulness. Especially at some specific junctions of trials. It is the faith in the words and promises of the Lord that we must hold onto, if we must progress and not draw back unto perdition. Walking in union with Christ involves surrendering our doubts, fears, and worries to Him and embracing His peace. Walking by faith doesn’t mean ignoring reality; it means choosing to view reality through the lens of God’s truth.
So, the invitation is to trust in God’s unseen promises, to embrace His guidance, and to live out our faith daily. As we walk by faith, not by sight, we find strength, purpose, and unwavering hope in our journey with Christ. It is by seeing through the lens of faith that we adequately walk in union with Christ.
