Wake up! God’s Message to the Slumbering Believer

Wake up! God's Message to the Slumbering Believer - Revelation 3:2

Wake up! Strengthen what you have left ·before it dies completely [or which is about to die]. I have found that ·what you are doing is less than what my God wants [your works are incompleted/unfulfilled before my God].

Revelation 3:2 EXB

It is dangerous for a man to be asleep when he ought to be on the watch and at alert. Albeit, it is more dangerous if the man is unaware that he is no longer awake. It is a costly assumption for such a man to think he is awake when he is sleeping. Therefore, I want us to consider God’s message to the believers Sardis in Revelation 3, lest we become trapped in such an error. This verse serves as a spiritual alarm clock, urging us to rouse from our slumber. It calls for action and an active pursuit of spiritual growth and renewal. The phrase “Wake up!” resonates like a loud trumpet blast, piercing through the slumber of complacency. It’s a reminder that a lack of spiritual vigilance can lead to spiritual stagnation and even decline.

Write this to the angel of the church at Sardis: ‘This is the message to you from the one who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know everything that you do. I know that people praise you. They think that you are alive. But that is not true, because really you are dead in your spirits.

Revelation 3:1 EASY

How terrible would it be for a man who thinks he is alive when his believer’s life is actually dead! If we rely solely on the praise of people and do not actively seek God’s guidance for our spiritual life, we could become trapped and ensnared in the devil’s cage for a long time before we become aware of it. It may then be too late to make amends.

Dear Christian, it is God’s desire that you will not only do some of the things He wants you to do, but that you will accomplish all that you’re destined for. God is happier when He finds you doing all that He wants with a steadfast gaze upon the Lord Jesus. When you aren’t turning either to the left or right, and not sleeping when you should be on the battlefield.

So, the instruction is simple, “wake up!”. Let not the people’s applause deceive you. Don’t fall victim of assuming that you are awake, when God is saying that your believer’s life is becoming lifeless. Why must the devil rejoice over your life? There is sufficient grace in Christ Jesus for you, and for your unfinished deeds. “Amaziah did what the LORD wanted him to do, but not with all his heart” (2 Chronicles 25:2 ERV). How are you handling what has been committed into your hands?

Let us not to be content with unfinished deeds, as God desires our complete dedication. Our faith journey is an active one, requiring continuous effort and commitment. In the sight of God, our deeds matter, and they should reflect our love and devotion. Just as a sleeping person needs to wake up and become alert, we must awaken our spiritual senses. Shake off spiritual lethargy and actively pursue a vibrant, meaningful faith. Our spiritual journey requires active participation and continuous growth. Embrace the active pursuit of faith, and watch as your spiritual life blossoms and flourishes.
