But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:57 AMPC
Victory describes an act of defeating an enemy or opponent in a battle, game, or other competition. It is overcoming an enemy or antagonist. It is also an achievement of mastery or success in a struggle or endeavour against odds or difficulties.
Our greatest enemy is the devil. He is warring against our souls and his aim is to drag us to hell where he is already damned to be for eternity. His greatest weapon is sin, and at the end of this comes death. Death, in the preceding verses is compared to a venomous reptile. It has wounded its victims and introduced into their body its deadly poison.
But there is now victory over sin and death. Like a resistless conqueror, it can soften the sin-hardened heart, revive the faint-hearted, restore the lost glory and resurrect the sleeping saint. Oh, how costly was that victory! The Lord of life suffered and died and ascended into heaven leading death captive and triumphing over it as our surety and representative.
Once you were nobody. Now you are God’s people. At one time no one had mercy on you. Now God has treated you with kindness.
1 Peter 2:10 CEV
Thanks be to God for giving us victory. From nobody to conquerors – all through our Lord Jesus Christ. This powerful verse is a reminder of the victory that we have through Jesus Christ. It reminds us that no matter what we face in life, we can be victorious because of what Jesus has done for us.
It is a great source of encouragement and hope for believers. We don’t have to live in defeat or despair because Jesus has already won the ultimate victory. We can live with confidence and boldness, knowing that we are more than conquerors through Christ (Romans 8:37).
Jesus’ victory extends beyond our physical resurrection to encompass other aspects of our lives as well. It extends to our daily lives as well. We can be conquerors in every situation we face because of Jesus.
