Our desires fight against God, because they do not and cannot obey God’s laws. If we follow our desires, we cannot please God.
Romans 8:7-8 CEV
God created us for His glory. Therefore, our life is meant to both glorify and please Him in everything and at every time. But the natural man and every of its desires is in hostility to God because it “do not and cannot obey God”. Thus, it is impossible to please Him.
In His pursuit to break this wall of hostility and bring us back to Himself, Jesus died and paid the price for our redemption. We become a new creature when we accept this work of redemption through faith in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
It is possible, however, for someone who has come to Christ to drift toward self-desire (not willing to accept the authority of Christ), and as a result, such life becomes unpleasing to the Lord. We may do a thousand things that, from outward appearance, bear a visible conformity to God’s will and yet may not be pleasing to Him.
“So then those who are living the life of the flesh [catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature] cannot please or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him.” – v8 (AMPC)
I hope this encourage you or perhaps serves as a reminder that you should not fight God in your desires. We cannot win God’s favour outside His will for our lives.
