If You, Lord, should keep an account of our sins and treat us accordingly, O Lord, who could stand [before you in judgment and claim innocence]?
Psalms 130:3 AMP
The inward sense of our sin will never permit us to make a claim for anything before God. Indeed, if we are to carefully reflect on our lives – our actions and in-actions, especially from the ‘lens of the righteous Judge’, we would realize how corrupt we have become and how dirty and unacceptable our sins have made us.
Perhaps we would have been able to stand if it were to be a human marking our sins. Therefore, the Psalmist did not make reference to human justification in this verse. But in the sight of God, before whom everything lies bare, even the thoughts of men, the question remains “who could stand?”. If you were to give an account of your life would you be able to stand before the Lord as innocent?
However, while we may rejoice today because of God’s grace that is available unto us, it is important to note that the day of judgement is coming. The day is coming when everyone would have to give an account for their lives. Then it would be too late to repent; it will only be a time for judgement. When that day shall come, will you be able to stand?
If there were any way of getting into heaven by a back door, or of hiding our sins from God’s eye, we might have some ground of hope and may not bother about sin; but there will come a day when we shall all stand before God like prisoners at the bar. When this day shall come, will you be able to stand?
Always remember that our judgment is in the hands of God. How will you defend yourself to the Almighty who sees everything, even the depth of your heart?
