If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
Psalm 66:18 NLT
It is undoubtedly true that God is willing and ready to help anyone who would call unto Him in the place of prayer. However, it is also very true that God detests sin and the life of a sinner. As much as He loves everyone and wants all to come to Him, no one can approach Him with sin harbored in the heart.
Therefore, if your voice must reach the throne of grace, you must first and foremost deal with any and every unconfessed sin in your life. The Psalmist says here: without the confession of sin, the Lord would not have listened.
The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the [consistently] righteous (the upright, in right standing with Him).
Proverbs 15:29 AMPC
The Lord is far from the wicked. He has shut His hears toward their prayer so that He will not hear. Even the righteous whose prayer would get Divine attention is not one who is inconsistent in their walk with God. But those who are consistently righteous – who maintain a consistent right standing with God.
So, before you lament that you’ve been praying tirelessly without an answer, please investigate your heart. What is your standing with God? Is there any unconfessed sin that you’re keeping in your heart?
Now is the time to go before God and confess your sins. He is faithful and just to forgive all unrighteousness. Don’t hold back anything, bring it all to the foot of the cross and He will answer you.
Don’t forget: If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
