Do not, therefore, fling away your fearless confidence, for it carries a great and glorious compensation of reward.
Hebrews 10:35 AMPC
Confidence as mentioned in this verse is the filial trust of a believing heart. A heart washed from guilt and power of sin in the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ. The more of this confidence the Christian possesses, the humbler will he be, for it makes Christ supreme in the heart. And in what is this confidence placed? In self-goodness? Or self-power? No! But in God, through Jesus Christ alone.
We should however bear in mind that confidence and faith, though they are much the same in their exercise, yet they are different. Confidence is the outcome of faith. It leads the soul onward to be bold and daring. Faith is the root while confidence is the branch that springs forth from it.
Confidence grows on faith and cannot live without it. But, faith may exist without confidence. We can see, therefore, that we may cast away our confidence through unbelief. Once we begin to doubt the power and will of Christ in our lives, our confidence is gone. The faith may not altogether have departed, but confidence is thrown away.
If then, you are a possessor of this confidence, hold it fast. It leads to something more, something higher, bolder, and grinder, for Christ and for His cause. Hold fast to it. Exercise it. The more it is cultivated and exercised, the more it will grow and the stronger it will become. Therefore, you can be sure of your great reward.
