For you have need of patient endurance [to bear up under difficult circumstances without compromising], so that when you have carried out the will of God, you may receive and enjoy to the full what is promised.
Hebrews 10:36 AMP
Patience is not an ignorance of the present evils or an indifference for future good. But Christian patience is a disposition that keeps us calm and composed in our frame, and steady in the practice of our duty according to God’s purpose, under the sense of our afflictions or in the delay of our hopes.
It is composed of confidence, hope, and belief in future perfect redemption. We cannot perfectly do God’s will without patience. Likewise, it is also indispensable for the receiving of the promise. It also prevents us from becoming faint-hearted. Since challenges are inevitable on this journey of faith, and without patience one may try to find an easy way out by quitting. Therefore, we need to patiently endure whatever difficult circumstances that may come our way. Otherwise, we may quit and lose the reward of doing God’s will.
It is not just enough for us as Christians to do the will of God; there is a need for persistence in doing this will. However, God will reward only those who steadfastly and persistently carry out His will. Anyone who loses his patience cannot have a part in the future fulfilment of hope.
In conclusion, I would like to remind you again that you have the need for patient endurance. You need patience to persist in doing the will of God, and in waiting till the end to receive the promise.
