Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:20-22 NIV
It is no lie that there are numerous false teachers in our world today. However, that should not be an excuse for anyone to shut their ears to the preaching and teaching of God’s word. We are not to treat God’s word with contempt, as something that is of no importance or that has lost its potency but to test them.
However, the disposition with which we approach testing the prophecies (teachings) of any minister is also very crucial to its effect on our lives. It is first and foremost important for us to have the right intention toward testing any teaching of any minister. The intention should be to identify what God’s will is and follow it, and on the other hand, to reject whatever is not in alignment with the Father’s will.
Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.
John 7:17 NIV
If you would not seek to do the Father’s will, you might not as well be able to identify the truth from the plausible.
“When people speak messages on God’s behalf, do not refuse to listen. Instead, think carefully about everything, to see if it is true. Remember to obey anything that is good. But keep away from any kind of bad thing.” (EASY) Hold on to the truth once found and reject any and every kind of evil.
