In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
Hebrews 1:1-2 NIV
God’s method of communication has changed across the ages. In the Old Testament, He spoke through prophets in visions, dreams, and divine encounters. Yet today, God speaks through The Living Word—Jesus Christ Himself. This truth reveals not only a shift in divine communication but also a deeper invitation to know God personally and directly through His Son. Through Jesus Christ, God removed the separation between Himself and humanity, offering direct and personal access to His voice.
Jesus, the Living Word, perfectly reveals God’s nature. He is not merely a messenger but the very message of God’s heart and purpose. The author of Hebrews describes the Son as “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being.” Therefore, in Christ, we see God personified. To behold the Son is indeed to behold the Father. This truth harmonises beautifully with John 1:1-3, which proclaims, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus is the living Word — both with God and fully God. Through Him, all things were made, and in Him, the fullness of divine life and light is revealed to the world.
Because of this, God has now made Himself accessible to all who believe. In the Old Testament, people relied on prophets or priests as intermediaries to hear from God. Yet now, through Christ, that barrier has been completely removed. Moreover, the Holy Spirit — the third Person of the Trinity — dwells within every believer, making divine communication personal and direct. He teaches, guides, and reveals God’s heart to us intimately. Consequently, every believer can experience God’s presence and direction daily.
As a result of Christ’s work, the way God communicates has permanently changed. We no longer depend solely on external messengers to discern His will. Instead, the Holy Spirit enables us to hear His voice and sense His presence inwardly. Therefore, the pursuit of prophets as exclusive mouthpieces of God belongs to the old order. In Christ, the complete revelation of God’s Word has already been given. Every prophecy of the past offered only a fragment of the divine picture — like bricks being laid one upon another. However, in Jesus, the entire Word of God stands complete, revealing His full heart, will, and purpose.
In the Son, we discover everything there is to know about God. Whenever we seek direction or understanding, we can confidently turn to Him, for the fullness of God dwells in Christ (Colossians 1:19). Furthermore, through Scripture and prayer, we commune with the Son and receive fresh insight daily. God’s chosen means of communication in these last days remains unchanged — He still speaks through His Son, revealed to us by His Spirit.
The same Son through whom God created the universe is the One who now speaks to us. Therefore, to know God, we must know His Word — the Son — and walk in fellowship with Him. Before ascending, Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit, another Comforter, who would live within every believer. Through the Spirit, we now carry God’s presence wherever we go. Indeed, divine revelation has moved from the prophets to the Son and now to the indwelling Spirit within us. In these last days, God still speaks clearly, powerfully, and personally through the Living Word, made alive in us by His Spirit.
Living It Out
Today, you no longer need to look outside yourself to hear God’s voice. His Word dwells in you, and His Spirit interprets that Word to your heart. Therefore, take time each day to listen intentionally. Open the Scriptures with expectation, knowing that God desires to speak personally to you. As you walk with Christ and yield to the Spirit, you will find His voice guiding, correcting, and encouraging you. In these last days, God still speaks — clearly, powerfully, and personally — through His Son, by His Spirit, within you.
