The Heart of Gratitude: Embracing Thanksgiving Always

The Heart of Gratitude: Embracing Thanksgiving Always - 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV

A song by Don Moen beautifully expresses the attitude we should strive to have every day: “Give thanks with a grateful heart. Give thanks to the Holy One. Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.” However, the challenges we face in life often make it difficult to maintain a heart of gratitude. Despite this, the Bible encourages us to give thanks in all circumstances. Even when your heart is breaking, give thanks. Even if you are without a job or educational achievement, give thanks. Everything might seem to be working against you, but still, give thanks with a grateful heart.

Maintaining gratitude during trials isn’t easy, but remember that Jesus Christ is the One we are thanking. Give thanks, even when it’s hard. Today, let me encourage you, as I encourage myself, that even in pain, God is there. He is God, and He is good. He is the Holy One, and He knows you personally. God sees you and will perfect all that concerns you.

The enemy tries daily to steal from you—your peace, joy, and gladness. However, when you cultivate a heart of gratitude, you raise the bar. At that point, you gain the peace that surpasses human understanding. You can see Jesus and recognize that you are held in His arms. Giving thanks helps you see beyond your circumstances and understand who God is. So today, encourage yourself in the Lord. Give thanks with a grateful heart. Sing and dance for joy, even in the face of trials. Gratitude is an antidote to worry and anxiety.

Remember, the One you are worshipping is the Creator of the universe, the Holy One of Israel, and our High Priest. From today, make it a point to give thanks. Embrace a heart of gratitude, knowing that it transforms your perspective and draws you closer to God.
