Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32 NIV
It is not enough to abstain from unfriendly or hostile behaviours. Even any other act that may lead us into sin while promoting unhealthy relationships. We should always cherish that friendly and loving disposition which demonstrates the kind of life that we have received from Christ Jesus. In living a God kind of life, we are called to emulate the virtues found in Christ. These virtues not only transform our relationships but also shape our spiritual connection with God.
As we have been enjoined, we should see to it that we are fully obedient in carrying out these instructions. We should ensure that like Christ Jesus, we are kind to everyone. Not only those that are kind to us. The tentacles of our compassion should reach everyone. Treat others well, lending without expecting repayment, and reflecting the nature of God’s love.
Rather love your enemies and continue to treat them well. When you lend money, don’t despair if you are never paid back, for it is not lost. You will receive a rich reward and you will be known as true children of the Most High God, having his same nature. Be like your Father who is famous for his kindness to heal even the thankless and cruel.
Luke 6:35 TPT
Meanwhile, we should also realise that as God’s chosen people, such lifestyle as this is expected to become our default nature. This is the kind life we have been set apart unto. It is the God kind of life. “Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children.” (Ephesians 5:1 ERV). By being imitators of God, we exemplify the love that sets us apart.
God has chosen you to be his own special people. You belong to him and he loves you very much. So, this is how you should live: Be kind to other people and help them. Do not think that you are better than other people. Instead, respect them and be patient with them. Do not become angry with each other. If you think that someone has done something wrong against you, forgive them. Remember that the Lord has forgiven you. So you should also forgive other people.
Colossians 3:12-13 EASY
Likewise, we cannot over emphasise the place of forgiveness in relationships. It is so greatly important that it not only affects our relationships with one another but also with God. When we forgive, we open ourselves to experiencing God’s loving forgiveness.
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:14-15 ERV
Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him [drop the issue, let it go], so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions and wrongdoings [against Him and others]. [But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions.]
Mark 11:25-26 AMP
Living the God kind of life requires us to be kind and compassionate, embracing forgiveness as a cornerstone of our relationships. Let us imitate God’s love by extending kindness to all and nurturing an attitude of forgiveness. In doing so, we deepen our bond with God and create a world filled with love and understanding.
