The Fear of the Lord: The Cornerstone of Every Godly Life

The Fear of the Lord: The Cornerstone of Every Godly Life - Psalm 112:1

Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!) Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who fears (reveres and worships) the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments.

Psalm 112:1 AMPC

To fear the Lord is not an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief or anticipation of danger. On the contrary, it is to have a reverential awe of God. This then guides us into worship and adoration of His being.

The fear of the Lord is the cardinal virtue and the cornerstone of every godly life. It is the root of grace out of which, if it is fully planted, all other graces and different fruits of righteousness grow. The Lord will bless a life characterized by godly fear. The God-fearing man is the God-blessed man.

Such life also delights greatly in the Lord’s commandments. He is excited about God’s instructions and gladly obeys. Such life longs to be intimate with God every minute. Also, The God-fearing man recognises his dependence on God, displaying a humble spirit in all aspects of life. He pursues holiness, guarding his heart and mind, and embracing a lifestyle that reflects God’s righteousness.

“For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great are His mercy and loving-kindness toward those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him.” (Psalm 103:11 AMPC). What a great privilege to have such great mercy and loving-kindness upon one’s life.

So, when we embrace the fear of the Lord, we open the floodgates of God’s blessings. This causes us to experience His favour in every aspect of life. This fear grants us a profound intimacy with God, inviting us to draw closer to Him and know Him on a deeper, personal level.

Living a life characterized by reverential awe toward God brings about transformative blessings. Let us embrace the fear of the Lord, finding delight in His commandments and experiencing the overflowing mercy and loving-kindness that He abundantly bestows upon us- His children. Therefore, let us praise God for giving us such a great privilege of relationship.
