You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.
Ezekiel 28:15 NIV
Ezekiel 28:12-15 offers a striking and sobering picture. It describes someone crafted by God with extraordinary perfection, wisdom, and beauty. Yet despite such divine favour, the fall of this being remains one of the most tragic moments in scripture.
This passage refers to a glorious being, often believed to represent Lucifer before his rebellion. God anointed him as a guardian cherub. He walked on the holy mount and lived blamelessly. But everything changed when wickedness entered his heart. That moment marked the fall, and he lost everything he once carried.
This truth carries a powerful message. Someone so radiant, so elevated, lost it all simply because sin found a place within. The scripture is more than a story—it’s a warning meant to stir our hearts.
Even the most gifted and spiritually mature are not beyond the reach of temptation. The fall of Lucifer happened not because he lacked strength or favour, but because he entertained pride and sin. If it happened to him, it can happen to anyone who lets down their guard.
That reality should humble us. No matter how far we’ve come, sin still has the power to drag us down. It erodes God’s investment, silences our testimony, and can ruin years of faithful service. What was once glorious can become a distant memory if we let sin take root.
Moreover, sin not only damages our reputation. It tears away our spiritual covering and exposes us to the enemy. It brings shame, confusion, and vulnerability. What once stood as a beacon of light may quickly fall into darkness if left unguarded.
Therefore, we must live with constant awareness. This means guarding our thoughts, checking our motives, and remaining sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s voice. God has called us to walk in holiness, not in compromise. He desires that we finish well, not just begin well.
Yes, the fall is real. But so is God’s power to keep us from falling—if we walk closely with Him. Humility, obedience, and a daily surrender will help us stand strong in His grace.
Living It Out
Let this passage be more than a warning—let it prompt self-examination. Are there small compromises creeping into your life? Have you grown spiritually casual or careless?
Ask the Holy Spirit to shine His light into every corner of your heart. Invite Him to reveal anything that could lead to your undoing. Stay awake, stay humble, and walk in the fear of the Lord.
Remember, it’s not only how we begin that matters—it’s how we finish.
