The Community in Christ: Standing Against Discord

The Community in Christ: Standing Against Discord - Titus 3:10

Warn anyone who tries to get believers to separate from one another. Warn that person more than once. After that, have nothing to do with them.

Titus 3:10 NIV

God’s plan for humanity emphasises living together as a community. In Genesis, when God created man, He specifically said that man should not be alone. God was interested in fellowship, not just God-to-man fellowship, but also man-to-man fellowship. Consequently, God intended for men to coexist and bring forth something tangible to His glory.

In this verse, we receive a profound instruction: anyone involved in creating division should desist from it. Accordingly, the church community must stand against those who sow discord or engage in divisiveness, as division is a tool of the enemy. The devil thrives in places of division, conflict, and argument.

Therefore, anyone who seeks to sow discord among believers must stop. Believers must embody a character that promotes unity, irrespective of location or geography. As Scripture states, a house divided against itself will not stand (Matthew 12:25). If the Christian body is divided, with one saying they follow Paul and another saying they follow Apollos, God’s plan for a united church community will not be fulfilled.

Furthermore, in the Acts of the Apostles, the church welcomed believers without any division. They were all gathered as children of God, serving as an example for us. Likewise, believers today should aim to dwell in unity. Although we may come from different parts, we form one body with one faith, one Lord, one Father, and one message.

We must welcome new believers into the household of God. We must avoid sowing discord and discouraging unity. Instead, we should live in a manner that unites everyone in the family of Christ. One of the ways we please the Lord is by ensuring that we dwell in unity as believers. So, do not be the tool the devil uses to separate others.

In summary, God calls us to live in harmony and unity. Division is a tool of the enemy that disrupts God’s plan for a unified church community. As believers, we must actively work to maintain unity, embracing all as part of the body of Christ. Let us be vigilant, discouraging division, and welcoming new believers into a united household of faith. By living in this manner, we fulfill God’s desire for us and thwart the enemy’s attempts to divide us. Remember, unity in the body of Christ pleases the Lord and strengthens our witness to the world.
