So, I, the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to you to live a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called [that is, to live a life that exhibits godly character, moral courage, personal integrity, and mature behaviour—a life that expresses gratitude to God for your salvation]
Ephesians 4:1 AMP
Beloved, it is a great privilege to be called by God, a higher and secure calling. It is a call to liberty and fellowship with Christ. We are called to glory and His kingdom. So, we are not to take the grace of God upon your life in vain (2 Corinthians 6:1). Likewise, we are to ensure that we do not let the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ be in vain over our life.
Now let’s discuss the exhortation based on this glorious privilege. Paul urges us to walk worthy of our calling. This is not about becoming worthy of the calling, but living in a manner that reflects the mercy we have received. How can you do it? By walking in holy liberty, peace, and fellowship with Christ. Humility plays a vital role in our walk, along with the grace of the Spirit. Let us strive to keep unity and peace as the basis of our privileged position. The more you grasp God’s grace, the more you humble yourself.
Therefore, I urge you to live worthy of this calling, walking in holy liberty and peace. As you have been called, live a godly life; a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called. Live a life that is unto God, a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Him. (Romans 12:1-2)
We must endeavour to be morally upright – exhibiting godly characters in everything we do, within or out of sight. We must be known as a man or woman of integrity – truthful in all our dealings especially at work. The subsequent verses also explain further the kind of life we are called to live.
Dear friends, you are like visitors and strangers in this world. So I beg you to keep your lives free from the evil things you want to do, those desires that fight against your true selves.
