“Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
Mark 1:25-28 NIV
Do you remember the scripture that says, ‘These signs shall follow them that believe’? (Mark 16:17) In this passage, we see that Jesus did not just believe in the fact that He was the Son of God. He had a relationship with the Spirit of God that made Him exemplify that life. Jesus lived the kind of life where signs and wonders followed what He did. In this previous post, we considered that as Jesus was teaching, a man with an impure spirit cried out. Jesus did not just leave that impurity to stay in that place. The scripture says that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17). So, because of the presence of the Lord’s Spirit in the synagogue as Jesus taught, darkness had to leave.
From that point on, everything that Jesus did was backed up with the manifestation of the Spirit. However, it was not the manifestation first; it was that His life was in accordance with God’s will. Miracles are only a byproduct of the evidence of the Spirit of God in a person. Jesus produced a life that showed the evidence that the Spirit of God was resident inside of Him.
As the man cried out, Jesus spoke with the authority He had through the power of the Spirit over His life. He commanded the unclean spirit to be quiet and come out of the man, and it had no choice but to obey. The presence of Jesus produces ultimate obedience. Everything on earth, under the earth, and in the heavens responds to the name of Jesus and to the authority in that name.
After this, the people marvelled. They realised that Jesus was different from anyone they had ever heard. They received conviction about the message of Jesus because they could see, and understand that Jesus was not like every other person. He operated under the authority and power of the Holy Spirit.
Your words will gain ground when your relationship with the Holy Spirit is correct and genuine. Your life will produce signs and wonders once you live in accordance with His will and His Spirit. It is from that relationship that the miracles and things we desire to see will happen.
