The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1 NIV
When a man has been with the Lord – dwelling on His holy mountain, and steadfastly growing along the path of righteousness. This kind of testimony becomes his reality as well. No man can boast of security in the Lord without first and foremost fulfilling the demand that the Psalmist raised in Psalm 15:1. “…who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain?”. It is after a man has received the right of sonship into God’s kingdom, that he can grow to this point.
Again, I would like to emphasize the fact that God wants us to partake in corporate worship. But His utmost desire is for each one to come to a place of personal relationship. This is where He can make Himself known to us individually. So, the Psalmist says: “The Lord is my light and salvation…”
When Jesus says in John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never live in darkness. They will have the light that gives life.”, He was only stating an undeniable fact. It is, therefore, not sufficient if this is all you could say about the Lord. If there’s no testimony from a personal relationship with Him. It is good that you know and claim that Jesus is the light of the world, and perhaps of your church too. But who is He to you? What do you have to say about Him?
“Lord, you are my Light and my Saviour, so why should I be afraid of anyone? The Lord is where my life is safe, so I will be afraid of no one!” (ERV). When the Lord becomes your light and Saviour, His presence casts out all fears. So, you would be able to say, “whom shall I fear?” and “why should I be afraid”? You would not need to fear. Not because there would not be storms along the way but knowing that He is on the journey with you means that you will never sink. In actively seeking a personal relationship with God, we fortify our spiritual security, finding unwavering strength in His presence. Security flourishes as we deepen our connection, making fear a distant memory on our journey with the Lord.
“Even when your path takes me through the valley of deepest darkness, fear will never conquer me, for you already have! Your authority is my strength and my peace. The comfort of your love takes away my fear. I’ll never be lonely, for you are near.”
Psalm 23:4 TPT
Such is the hope of those who have a personal relationship with the Lord, for the Psalmist says here again that, “The Lord is my shepherd…”. Also, we read Paul’s testimony in 2 Corinthians 1:10. “He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us”. What a great privilege and blessing for a man to have such a strong hope in the Lord that He will continue to deliver him. May I also inform you that the Lord is my light and salvation, I have no reason to fear. He has preserved my life and my family thus far. So, I have set my hope that He will continue to deliver us and show us His love and grace. Will you do the same?
