Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you
1 Peter 1:3-4 NIV
Praise God for His boundless mercy! He has given us new birth into a living hope through Jesus Christ’s resurrection (1 Peter 1:3-4). Consequently, we also receive a secure unfading inheritance. This divine promise offers absolute certainty in an uncertain world. Indeed, it transforms how we view life and our future.
The Certainty of Your Unfading Inheritance
Every earthly possession eventually perishes. Wealth, health, fame, and even cherished relationships can all spoil or fade. Consequently, holding onto these worldly promises often leads to deep disappointment. However, believers receive a far greater promise from God.
This promise provides a secure unfading inheritance. It can never perish, spoil, or fade, offering eternal value. Our inheritance does not rely on our actions or persistence. Instead, it rests entirely on God’s great mercy and Jesus Christ’s finished work. Indeed, our “new birth through the resurrection” serves as the divine guarantee for this truth.
Moreover, this inheritance is “kept in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4). It remains perfectly safe, unlike money in a failing bank or treasures thieves might steal. God Himself guards this inheritance with absolute power. Therefore, this certainty of eternal life and our secure future must fundamentally transform how we live today.
Knowing we have a permanent and untouchable future allows us to endure present hardships. Furthermore, it encourages selfless submission, as previously discussed. We should invest our time and energy into things with eternal value. Ultimately, our devotion to God’s will is fuelled by the absolute certainty of His eternal reward.
Living It Out
Reflect on your daily life. Are you investing mainly in temporary things or eternal ones? Consider how knowing your secure unfading inheritance remains untouched in heaven changes your perspective on current trials. Let this living hope infuse your life with joy, peace, and purpose, trusting God’s promises.
