Responding to Jesus’ Invitation: Your Heart’s Open Door

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

Revelation 3:20 NKJV

Throughout Scripture, Jesus consistently fulfils the Father’s desire to reconcile humanity to Himself. He always offers a hand of fellowship, a clear invitation to draw near. In this verse, Jesus declares, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” This shows His desire for relationship. Crucially, He enters only when we choose to open our hearts. This illustrates the importance of responding to Jesus’ invitation.

Jesus’ approach to relationships reveals His respect for our free will. He provides the option of choice. We can either open to Him or ignore His gentle knocking. Indeed, He never forces His way in. A thief, conversely, would unlawfully enter a home. Even when you have the door locked, thieves still break in. Scripture explains that the devil comes only to steal, kill, and destroy.

Jesus, however, acts differently. He stands at a specific door: your heart. He stands there daily, gently knocking, desiring that you open to Him. Indeed, He wants to be with you, and He also wants you to be with Him. This is the longing of His heart and that shows in His persistent pursuit for your heart.

Moreover, He cannot take control of your life or arrange it properly unless granted access. Therefore, He patiently waits for your reply to His invitation. Even as you journey through this year, He would love to lead, guide and guard you, but you must respond by opening up to Him. This verse confirms this truth: “I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”

Living It Out

Responding to Jesus’ invitation daily is the best thing you can do for yourself. If you do not open your heart in response to Jesus’ call, He cannot come in. Consequently, you cannot experience His care for your life in the way He desires. Therefore, what will your response be today? Will you ignore His consistent knocking, or will you welcome Him in? Choose to open your heart to Him now for salvation and a transformed life.
