In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee.
Luke 24:5-6 NIV
Sin has a deadly venom with which it draws men to hell. But Jesus came for the redemption of the world. He bore our sins in His body. He was severely wiped (though without sin) and nailed to the cross – He died a sinner’s death. In His death, He satisfied the punishment of sin once and for all.
“But God brought him from death back to life and destroyed the pains of death, because death had no power to hold him.” (Acts 2:24) Hallelujah! Jesus is alive. And that is the basis of our faith, that the pains of death have been destroyed. “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is mere delusion [futile, fruitless], and you are still in your sins [under the control and penalty of sin];” (1 Corinthians 15:17)
The redemptive power of Jesus through His resurrection is not just a one-time event, but it continues to have a profound impact on our lives today. Through His resurrection, we are given the power to overcome sin and to live a life of purpose and meaning.
There’s therefore no other sacrifice required than that which was paid by Jesus Christ. There’s no other means by which men can be saved except by faith in the risen Saviour. Why are you looking for the living among the dead? Jesus is alive; therefore, we also will live eternally by faith in the finished work of redemption. “Where, O death, is your sting? Where, O grave, is your victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55)
Furthermore, the resurrection of Jesus gives us the assurance that we too will be resurrected one day. Just as Jesus was resurrected, we too will be resurrected and given eternal life. Jesus has made available for us redemption from sin. As we receive it, by surrendering to Him, we have the hope of eternity with Him.
