Praise the Lord: Cultivating a Lifestyle of Thanksgiving

Praise the Lord: Cultivating a Lifestyle of Thanksgiving - Psalm 111:1-2

Praise the LORD! I thank the LORD with all my heart in the assembly of his good people. The LORD does wonderful things, more than anyone could ask for.

Psalm 111:1-2 ERV

Are you still unsure why you should give God praise? Perhaps you’re still trying to figure out why He deserves your praise. It is not far-fetched. This chapter of the Psalms will help us unveil this unarguable truth that the Lord deserves the praises of the whole world without the exemption of yours.

The first thing that calls our attention is His works – He performs wonderful things. The NIV puts it this way: “Great are the works of the Lord”. I’m sure you cannot annul this verdict.

LORD, you created so many things! With your wisdom you made them all. The earth is full of the living things you made.

Psalm 104:24 ERV

Meanwhile this does not leave you out of the picture of the wonderful and great works of the Lord. “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:13-14 NIV)
Not only are His works great and wonderful, they are also too great for the ordinary mind to comprehend. Too wonderful to understand (Job 5:9, 9:10). He does great and wonderful things more than anyone could imagine or ask for.

Lord GOD, with your great power you made the earth and the sky. There is nothing too hard for you to do. You are loyal and kind to thousands of people, but you also bring punishment to children for their fathers’ sins. Great and powerful God, your name is the LORD All-Powerful. You plan and do great things. You see everything that people do. You give a reward to those who do good things, and you punish those who do bad things—you give them what they deserve.

Jeremiah 32:17-19 ERV

The Lord is powerful and sovereign. Nobody can compare to Him. Nothing is impossible for Him. He is both compassionate and just, rewarding those who do good and bringing consequences to those who do evil.

In light of His greatness and power, it is evident that the Lord deserves our praise. He is the creator of all things, including us. His works are marvelous and beyond comprehension. He surpasses all with His unmatched wisdom and power. He sees everything and rewards goodness while bringing justice to wrongdoing.

Therefore, let us lift our voices and hearts in praise to the Lord. Let us join the assembly of His good people, thanking Him wholeheartedly for His wonderful deeds. Fill up yourself with gratitude and awe because God deserves your praise and adoration.
