Possess Your Possession: Living in What God Has Given You

Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess.‭

Numbers 33:53 NIV

This simple yet profound instruction marked a shift in Israel’s journey. For years, the people had travelled from one temporary place to another, pitching their tents, resting briefly, and then moving on again. Their journey was filled with transition, and every stop reminded them that they had not yet arrived at the place God had promised, and there was yet a possession they were yet to possess.

As they drew closer to their destination, God gave a defining command: Take possession of the land. This was more than a geographical instruction; it was a spiritual call. God wanted His people not merely to pass through or observe what He had provided but to own it, live in it, and enjoy it. It was a call to permanence—a shift from wandering to dwelling, from uncertainty to establishment.

To possess the land meant more than simply occupying space. It involved establishing roots, building homes, planting crops, and preparing for continuity. God was teaching His people that His promises were not temporary shelters but enduring inheritances. The same truth applies to us today.

Many believers live as though God’s blessings are temporary. We approach His promises cautiously, touching them lightly instead of embracing them fully. We sometimes live in spiritual tents, never settling into the fullness of what God has already made ours. But God’s command remains clear: “Take possession. I have given it to you.”

To possess what God gives is to walk in confidence, peace, and joy, knowing that His word is sure. It means embracing His provision without fear or hesitation, believing that what He has promised is not fleeting but eternal. God wants us to dwell in His blessings, not treat them as passing seasons.

This call is not only about physical inheritance but also about our spiritual one. Through Christ, we have been made heirs of God’s promises. We are not outsiders looking in; we are sons and daughters with a divine right to the inheritance of grace, peace, and purpose.

Yet, many of us live below this reality. The issue is not that God has withheld His promises, but that we sometimes fail to take hold of them. We hesitate, doubt, or live as though we are still wandering when God has already brought us into His abundance.

Now is the time to rise and take possession of what God has given you. Rise to embrace every promise He has spoken. Rise to enjoy the fullness of His blessings. Do not live as a temporary occupant in what God has permanently granted. Live as one who knows their rightful place, for God Himself has declared, “I have given it to you to possess.”

Living It Out

God’s call to “take possession” is an invitation to faith and action. Identify the areas in your life where you have been hesitant to fully embrace God’s promises—whether in your calling, your spiritual growth, or your relationship with Him. Surrender your fears and doubts, and step confidently into what He has already provided. You are not a stranger to His blessings; you are an heir. Live as one who belongs.
