Figure out what will please Christ, and then do it.
Ephesians 5:10 MSG
It may seem like living a life that pleases God is complicated. However, when we check the scriptures, we see that God’s instructions are simple and clear. Today’s verses illustrate this simplicity. We only need to figure out what pleases Christ and then do it. It is as simple as that. We often wonder, “How do I live a life pleasing to the Lord?” The answer is straightforward: do only what pleases the Lord. Avoid whatever does not please God. Pleasing God should be the purpose of our lives as Christians. The task before us is to discover how to do it. How do we do that? We achieve it by reading the scriptures and immersing ourselves in His Word.
The Bible is God’s love letter to us as His children. Are you seeking guidance on marriage? Search the scriptures. Is the issue of money confusing? Read the Word of God. The big question in everything we do should be, “What does God say about this matter?” Figure it out and act accordingly.
One person who succeeded in this was Noah. Despite being a man like us, Noah’s life pleased the Lord. How did Noah achieve this? He obeyed everything God commanded him to do. Noah discovered that pleasing God required listening to and obeying all of His instructions. In a time when humanity’s behaviour disgusted God, Noah stood out as a man who brought pleasure to the Lord.
Noah’s life demonstrates that pleasing God is not complicated. We simply need to discern what God desires, what delights Him, and what makes Him happy, and then do those things. Similarly, Mary, the mother of Jesus, understood this principle. She advised the servants at the wedding in Cana, “Whatever He tells you to do, do it.”
In conclusion, our mission as Christians is clear. Search the scriptures to know what pleases God and then do it. The path to a life that pleases God is laid out simply before us. Embrace it and live it.
