Noah’s Faith: Faithful Obedience in Challenging Times

Noah's Faith: Faithful Obedience in Challenging Times - Genesis 8:15-16

Then God said to Noah, “Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives.

Genesis 8:15-16 NIV

Noah’s faith was indeed an exceptional one, and it is worthy of emulation. I feel God was happier at what He saw in Noah’s life when they came out of the ark than before the flood. Men and women whom God will use to bring revival in our own generation must possess this kind of faith. Albeit in an increasing measure.

“And without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that he is real and that he rewards the faith of those who passionately seek him.”

Hebrews 11:6 TPT

Let’s talk of Noah’s faith. The first thing to note is that, in all the preparation instructions God gave, He did not talk about food. Neither did we see Noah raising any objection concerning whether to pack food or not. Yet they all survived the whole period of the flood. Not one of them died of hunger because God did not forget to meet their need.

Meanwhile, it is important that we remember that all Noah was informed about the duration was forty days of rain. Therefore, he could never have made provision for food that would have been sufficient for all of them. Also including the animals for the period, they eventually stayed in the ark.

“In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.”

Genesis 7:11 NIV

“By the first day of the first month of Noah’s six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry. By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry.”

Genesis 8:13-14 NIV

Noah and all the people and the animals eventually stayed in the ark for more than a year. If not by faith in God, what preparation can they have possibly made that would have been sufficient? Noah, however, trusted in the Lord. He did everything according to the Lord’s instructions, and what he has not been commanded to do, he do not. Noah’s faith had him relaxed. He knew the One who took them in is able to bring them out.

Even when it was time for them to come out, he did not jump out just because he saw that everywhere was dry. Instead, he waited patiently on the Lord until God told them to come out of the ark. Beloved, how is your faith?
