If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand.
Matthew 5:15 MSG
You are the light that cannot be hidden by the darkness of this world. For the Lord who is the source of your light has already overcome it. Therefore, it does not have any power over you, except you fail to shine. Also, the Lord who has made you light-bearers says He is putting you on a light stand so that you can shine His light.
Therefore, God expects that you will shine. Jesus says that where you are at this moment is a light stand for you to shine. You are in that environment, with your current situation, and at this particular time so that those within your circle of influence might see Christ who is the true source of light shining in and through you. You are there so that people might see God-colours.
Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16 MSG
Meanwhile, lest you become puffed up and arrogant, you are only ‘light-bearers’. You are not the source of the light itself. You are not to take credit for the light. God is the source of the light, and He wants us to carry Him within us so that He might be shinning in and through us for the world to see. The privilege of being light-bearers comes with a responsibility. It is to be conduits of God’s love, grace, and truth in a world yearning for His presence.
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
1 John 1:5 NKJV
As light-bearers, our call is to exhibit genuine faith. We are to allow God’s light to permeate every aspect of our being, satisfying the world’s hunger for authenticity. Likewise, we are to invite others to experience the joy, peace, and fulfillment that come from being in a relationship with Christ Jesus. Let us never shy away from shining our light, even in the face of opposition or adversity. God’s light is stronger than any darkness we may encounter.
May we continually seek God’s presence, allowing Him to fuel our light, so that we may radiate His love and grace to a world in desperate need.
