Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”
Job 1:8 NKJV
The period of nothingness is the period we ask, ‘God, where is Your face’? Job was a wealthy and upright man. He was the greatest of all the people of the East. Job was a worshipper of God and did everything in his power to maintain a right standing before God. He transferred this godly living even to his family and did everything to keep them as upright people. His personality and uprightness were desirable, and God asked the devil a question. ‘Have you considered my servant, Job’?
This was and is still a critical question. God saw something in Job’s life, which is why He asked the devil this question: ‘In all your going to and fro, did you happen to see my Job?’
Now, has God seen something in you to ‘brag’ about? Can God showcase me and be sure of who and what I represent publicly and privately? Job’s uprightness was not a public show like that of the Pharisees (see Matthew 6). To prove God wrong, the devil asked for permission to afflict Job with the hope that he would betray God.
However, Job’s relationship with God was not superficial. His devotion to God was not based on what God gave or would continue to give him. Job sincerely loved and worshipped the Lord. Is your love for God not material? If tested, will your love stand?
Furthermore, Job knew what he saw in God, and God could boast of what He saw in him. It is because of what he knew about God that secured his trust in Him. He knew that God gave and took away. Also, he knew that God was sovereign. When push comes to shove, do you know what you have believed? Will you not allow the influence of others to mess with your knowledge of God? Will circumstances not sway the confession of faith? So, when the season of nothingness comes, will you be like Job? Likewise, amidst trials and temptation, will your faith remain unwavering?
