Standing Strong in Integrity: A Christian’s Response to Persecution

Standing Strong in Integrity: A Christian's Response to Persecution - Job 2:9

Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!”

Job 2:9 NKJV

I would to draw your attention today to the question: ‘Do you still hold fast to your integrity’? Though connected to Job’s struggles, this question deserves our undivided attention. The world system actively works to destroy your integrity, both personally and as a Christian. The devil relentlessly schemes to sever your connection with God.

Today, people prioritize getting ahead over integrity. They actively seek ways to harm others whether directly or indirectly. There is no regard for God and His ways. Now, let us leave others and focus on you and me. Will you hold fast to your integrity in the face of adversity? Will you be steadfast and immovable with your faith? Are you not going to cower in fear in the face of persecution? Will I not lose sight of the standard of God when it seems like I’m alone? Will I not think God will understand when I dip my hands into sin because others won’t know?

Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated— of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

Hebrews 11:35-38 ESV

Men of old held on to promises even in the face of hardship. In the end, they earned the title of heroes of faith. Despite being mere men in their time, their unwavering faith earned them righteousness. History records that they endured torture, mockery, scourging, chaining, imprisonment, stoning, and being sawn in two, yet they stood firm. They were the ones of whom the world was not worthy. Will future generations say the same of us? Are we not striving to earn the world’s approval by engaging in actions that displease God? Are we not comprising our stand for God because we don’t want the world to call us too much?

As you go on in life, will you maintain integrity? Will you stand for God irrespective of what comes your way? Will you be steadfast and immovable? Think about these things.
