Therefore, say to the Israelites: “I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.”

If there’s one truth you can anchor your soul to, it is this: God’s Word will never fail. In every season of life, whether marked by joy or hardship, His promises stand immovable. The unwavering declaration “I Am the Lord” brings assurance and strength when all else feels uncertain.
Moses faced this reality when the Israelites’ suffering increased despite his obedience to God. After he and Aaron confronted Pharaoh, conditions grew worse. It appeared as though following God’s command had backfired. Yet, in the face of that discouragement, God spoke again, reminding Moses not only of His promise but of His person.
These words are far more than comforting expressions. They carry divine authority, infused with intention and compassion. God doesn’t just notice His people’s pain; He responds with covenantal resolve. And to establish the unshakable foundation of His promise, He declares: “I Am the Lord.”
That phrase repeats throughout the passage. Each time, it functions like a royal seal on His word, confirming that He, not Pharaoh, holds the ultimate power. Unlike man, God cannot lie. Unlike circumstances, He does not change. God’s declaration, “I Am the Lord”, tells us everything we need to know about the certainty of His promise.
He is not intimidated by human resistance, not confined by earthly limits. He is the Lord God Almighty—eternal, sovereign, and faithful.
Even today, His words resonate with truth. Perhaps you feel burdened—emotionally, spiritually, or financially. Perhaps your situation mirrors the hopelessness Israel once felt under Pharaoh’s yoke. Yet, through it all, God continues to speak: “I will bring you out. I will free you. I will redeem you.”
These aren’t just comforting sentiments; they are covenantal guarantees. And they demand a response—not only of hope, but of faith.
Verse 7 deepens the revelation: “I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.”
Deliverance, then, is not merely about freedom from oppression. It’s about being brought into belonging. God desires a relationship, not just rescue. To be delivered is to become His own—to know Him intimately, to walk with Him in trust and obedience.
Furthermore, in verse 8, God completes His promise with this final assurance: “I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.”
Once again, He signs His promise with His name. “I Am the Lord.” He is the God who remembers, who acts, and who fulfils. What He swore to generations past, He brings to completion—because His nature is steadfast.
Meanwhile, this truth is as relevant now as it was then. God’s identity underpins every promise. He doesn’t change with time or culture. He remains trustworthy. Whatever He speaks, He will do.
So, if you find yourself weary, weighed down, or wondering how long you must wait, lift your eyes. Bring your burdens before the One whose arm is mighty to save. Trust in the character of the God who sees, who speaks, and who delivers. He is the Lord, your Redeemer, your Provider. He is the Lord who leads you out and brings you in.
Living It Out
Take a quiet moment today to reflect on where you feel stuck or overwhelmed. Identify the places in your heart or circumstances that seem unyielding. Then, speak God’s truth over them. Declare with confidence: “I Am the Lord”—because He has said it over you.
Choose to believe that His promises apply to your situation. Rest in His unfailing nature. Trust in the One who delivered Israel, for He is still delivering today.
Whatever He has spoken, He will fulfil.
He is the Lord.
