He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.
Revelation 21:5-6 NIV
Revelation 21:5–6 carries a declaration that still echoes with power today: “I am making everything new.” These aren’t merely hopeful statements; they are powerful promises spoken directly over our lives and our families. The passage emphatically assures us, “These words are trustworthy and true.” This is the foundation upon which our faith stands – God is making a new thing.
Even when our circumstances feel stagnant, or the path ahead remains obscured, we can be certain that God is actively working behind the scenes. Though we may not yet perceive the full manifestation of His plan, His promise remains unshakeable. Consequently, we can stand firmly on His declarations, relying on them, depending on them, and finding genuine rest in their truth. We do this because we know the One who has spoken is not a man that He should lie, nor the son of man that He should disappoint.
The essence of this promise is that God is turning situations around for our ultimate good and fundamentally changing the old order of things. This declaration of “newness” isn’t a suggestion; it is a divine certainty coming to us. A new wave of God’s redemptive work is undoubtedly breaking forth. This includes miraculous interventions, the establishment of divine order where there was chaos, and the blossoming of fresh beginnings. Indeed, God is doing a new thing, and He has already declared, with finality, “It is done.”
His identity as the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, assures us of this completion. He has not left the work unfinished. He has completed everything required for this newness to break forth. God has conquered every limitation and paved the way forward. He has settled the miracle, established the breakthrough, and already accomplished the transformation in the spiritual realm, waiting to manifest in our lives.
So, what is our role in this divine process? The passage gives us a beautiful and simple answer. God offers one of His greatest assurances: “To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.” Our part, therefore, is not to strive but to thirst. We must cultivate a deep hunger for His presence and maintain a genuine desire for His work in our lives. We simply need to keep our hearts open to receive what He has already done.
This is the true beauty of the gospel. Our part is to thirst, to wait, and to trust His unfailing word. He will give this water without cost. It will not be by our own labour or strenuous effort. Instead, this newness will flow freely and abundantly from the spring of the water of life, straight from the heart of the Father.
Living It Out
This week, let’s consciously choose to lean into this promise. When you face an old pattern or a difficult situation, remind yourself aloud that God is “making all things new.” Instead of striving to fix it yourself, take a moment to simply “thirst.” Express your hunger for Him and His solution, trusting that He has already declared, “It is done,” and is providing the water of life freely.
