I will teach you the right way to live. I will be your guide and I will take care of you. Do not be like a silly horse, or a mule. You have to use a rope to tell them which way to go. Without that, they will not obey you.
Psalm 32:8 EASY
Isn’t it a great privilege and blessing that the prayer of ordinary men like you and I can get Heaven’s attention? Even to the extent of drawing such a great promise as this. “The Lord says, ‘I will teach you and guide you in the way you should live. I will watch over you and be your guide.’” (ERV)
Meanwhile, we must take note of certain things, lest we take this grace of God for granted. First, we must realize that the eye of God will only guide those diligently observing every indication of His will. Also, we must have a teachable disposition to fully grasp God’s instructions and guidance. Let us not be the kind that requires bits and bridles like horses before obeying His leading. We must be attentive and always show a great desire to know the will of our Guide.
When you see an affectionate and teachable child, he will gather his father’s will not merely from his actual words but from looks, tones, and gestures, and when he cannot do much more than guess what that will is, he will act on what is likely, rather than excuse himself by the want for more distinct information. Now, this is the disposition which God approves of here.
The one that the Father would guide must be one who will search out the slightest hints, the briefest intimations, and will not demand in every case express categorical instructions. So, what type of child are you? Do you require force and pleadings before you adequately obey instructions? Are you not a child who needs to be bribed to be obedient?
Albeit, a child that will benefit from the promise of the Lord to teach and guide must follow diligently. It is not the child that will say, “I will go, sir”, but will not do anything about His father’s injunctions. Do you still need bits and bridle?
