Anyone away from home is like a bird away from its nest.
Proverbs 27:8 GNT
Much like a bird has its nest, every person has their designated place, a place divinely ordained for them. Behind the instincts of birds and the social nature of humans, we must discern God’s purpose. Meanwhile, there are those who are perpetually restless, always in pursuit of something else, similar to wandering birds. Such individuals fail to recognize that the right place is often the best place for them.
Regardless of our calling in life, we should exercise patience before departing from it. We must comprehend that where God has stationed us or where He intends us to be is, in fact, the best place for us. However, it’s crucial to be certain that we are where God has placed us, not where He has allowed us to be, as many have strayed from the path ordained by the Lord.
The book of Jonah illustrates this truth vividly. Jonah departed from God’s presence and his divine assignment (Jonah 1:1-3). As a result, he encountered tumultuous waters and was eventually swallowed by a great fish. It was only when Jonah returned to the place God had appointed for him that he found himself on the right path.
Therefore, it is important to note that the best place for each of us is where we can serve Jesus to the best of our abilities, where we can be the best stewards, He has moulded us to be, and where we can bring Him the greatest glory. A bird that ventures from its nest exposes itself to danger and hardship, ultimately losing its nest. Proverbs 21:16 (ERV) warns, “Whoever leaves the path of wisdom will be on their way to an early death.”
Therefore, cherish your own ‘nest’ and remain within it. Maintain a clean and joyful home. There is no ‘nest’ as suitable and fitting for you as your own. Hence, do not restless, jumping here and there. And do not seek to change your ‘nest’ unless God has explicitly directed you to do so.
