God’s Holy People: Embracing Purity in the Christian Walk

God's Holy People: Embracing Purity in the Christian Walk - Ephesians 5:3

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.

Ephesians 5:3 NIV

Behold the Father’s instruction unto thee, God’s holy people, and obey the Master’s words, thou saints. As Christians, there’s a kind of life that’s improper for us to be identified with. This is so because we belong to God. Therefore, we must set ourselves apart for Him and live in a way that is pleasing and acceptable in His sight. God’s demand is that every Christian maintains a pure and clean heart.

The deeds of the children of darkness are detestable and unsightly, revealing the depth of their wickedness. Sin marks its victims, and deeds done in darkness do not escape detection and exposure. Sin reveals the depth of human depravity. Every indulged sin weakens self-control, leading to more reckless deeds. Sensuality is a destructive force, preying on the best part of us. It is like a vampire, devouring the best powers of mind and body.

Therefore, go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.

2 Corinthians 6:17 ERV

So, as one who profess the most holy faith, consecrated to the Lord’s service, we should ensure that we do not put our hands into any form of impurity, especially any form of sexual sin. This sin, detested by God and those transformed by His grace, is nonetheless enticing to our fallen human nature. It has a powerful allure to the fallen nature of humanity. Meanwhile, to counteract its pull, God has given us a sense of shame. More, importantly, He gives us grace so that we can resist its plea. As one redeemed from sin, we should despise and reject anything that goes against purity and godliness.

So, as God’s people, you must never have sex with anyone that you are not married to. Do not do any kind of dirty thing like that. Do not want many things for yourselves, just to make you happy. That is not how God’s people should live.

Ephesians 5:3 EASY

Likewise, let us beware of growing covetousness. It is a sneaky sin that can slowly consume a person’s soul. Covetousness is like a river getting blocked by accumulated sand and earth at its mouth. In the same way, as a person amasses wealth, their heart may become hardened, hindering their generosity and concern for spiritual matters. The desire for more worldly possessions can overshadow their focus on eternal life and their relationship with God.

Covetousness can lead to a downward spiral, where the more a person gains, the more they crave, and the less they prioritize their spiritual well-being. It’s crucial to be vigilant against the allure of accumulating wealth at the expense of spiritual growth and a generous heart.

For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
