God: Our Strength When We’re Weak

God: Our Strength When We're Weak - Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalm 73:26 NIV

How terrible it is for men to put their hope in other men who like them are prone to disappoint, or to trust in their strength, education, influence, etc? If (as the Psalmist says here) “My flesh and my heart may fail”, who or what then should be more reliable than “My flesh and my heart”?

The answer is not far-fetched. Only God is dependable. He is the only One that can never fail. He is the strength that can never grow tired or weak. He’s been there since eternity and will remain for eternity. He is ever-faithful.

Trust is something that comes from the knowledge of how dependable something or someone is. There has to be a consistent record of the character we trust. We trust integrity.

When we compare the abilities of a human, it is an exceedingly lower than that of God. Also unlike man, God is constant, static, or unchanging. He doesn’t improve or depreciate. That’s why there’s none like Him.

Man, on the other hand, changes. This could be positive or negative. Man can get better or he can get worse. Even with the best intentions, there are factors beyond man’s control. This is not our God. He is dependable. Nothing is beyond or out of His control. You can be sure that what he says, he will do.

“Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?” – Isaiah 2:22 (NIV) On the other hand, you can confidently put your trust in the Lord. Let Him be your strength and portion forever. He is the only One who can keep you safe and strong.

Prayer

Dear Father, please help me to take my eyes, my mind and my trust off of myself, my abilities, my possessions and anything or anyone else, help me to put my confidence only in you and never forget that you are always dependable.
