God Knows How to Rescue You from Your Trials

if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.

2 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In a world filled with chaos and injustice, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. We often find ourselves distressed by the depravity we see around us, much like Lot in the city of Sodom. He was a righteous man, living among the lawless, and day after day, their wicked deeds tormented his soul. Yet, in the midst of that torment, God knew how to rescue him. This simple truth, found in 2 Peter 2:9, offers a profound reminder and a source of great comfort: “the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials.”

Peter’s words are a clear call to remembrance. Therefore, he takes us back through history, highlighting God’s past judgments to underscore this very point. First, God did not spare the angels who rebelled against Him. Likewise, when the ancient world was overcome by wickedness, He brought a flood upon the ungodly. But in the same breath, He protected Noah, a man of righteousness, and his family. Finally, in the case of Sodom and Gomorrah, God condemned those cities, turning them to ashes as a warning to all who would live ungodly lives. Nevertheless, He reached down and rescued Lot from the impending destruction.

This historical pattern reveals a powerful and unwavering reality: for every action, there is a consequence. God’s judgment is as sure as His salvation. Ultimately, no matter how long the unrighteous may seem to prosper, they will face the punishment they deserve. Similarly, living a life of righteousness may come at a cost; it may bring trials and even persecution. However, we can rest in the absolute certainty that God sees our struggle and knows exactly how to rescue His people. Indeed, He will never abandon those who choose to live in truth and holiness.

As believers, God invites us to embrace Him fully and follow Him wholeheartedly. We can live with the assurance that our deliverance is secure. When we face trials because of our stand for righteousness, we do not stand alone. In fact, God is our protector and our deliverer. We are called to live confidently, knowing that our righteous standing with Him through Christ guarantees His divine intervention.
