But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
Psalm 130:4 NIV
In the preceding verse, the Psalmist asked a question which we have also considered here. We read the words of a sincere heart: “If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?”. Who could claim to be sinless and does not require God’s forgiveness? Your guess is as right as mine. There’s none that shall be able to stand righteous before the Lord. But the good news is that, God, who evaluates the man’s heart is able to forgive.
Though no one shall be able to stand if the Lord were to keep account of our sins and treat us accordingly. Every human being is a sinner, and cannot get along with God unless they are forgiven. Unfortunately, no one can afford the prize for their forgiveness. But, God’s mercy is extremely great. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who has satisfied the demand for our forgiveness. He paid the prize for the sins of the whole world. Therefore, God waits not to smite, but to heal. Not to punish, but to pardon; not to ruin, but to regenerate. He waits for anyone and everyone who would accept His provision for our salvation.
Forgiveness is His Nature
Here are some unchangeable truths you need to remind yourself about God’s forgiveness:
He is always ready to forgive: There is never a time when our Father God rejects a man who calls unto Him. He is full of mercy. Ever ready is He to forgive.
For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.
Psalm 86:5 NKJV
He forgives all, not partially your sins: When God forgives, He forgives all. Our Father leaves none behind.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases
Psalms 103:2-3 NKJV
He is reaching out to you for forgiveness: Many people run away from God because of their sins. But, God reached out to us even when we were dead in sins and trespasses. That is the greatness of His forgiving nature.
‘Come now, let us settle the matter,’ says the Lord. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
Isaiah 1:18 NIV
It is available only in Christ Jesus according to the grace of God: All the goodness of God is seen fulfilled in Christ Jesus. Forgiveness of sins is not exempted. It is only through His blood that forgiveness of sins is made available. Now, that it is available, we can reach out to receive.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
Ephesians 1:7 NKJV
We can therefore be eternally grateful that there is a way in which our sins can be atoned for. There is forgiveness for the guilty sinner and the sinning saint.
