Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners, Whose mouth speaks lying words, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood
Psalms 144:11 NKJV
This verse resonates with the desire for protection from those who deceive and betray. David describes them as “foreigners”. However, it also serves as a powerful reminder to examine ourselves and ensure we aren’t perpetuating the very behaviours we condemn. While David’s immediate concern was likely external enemies, this passage offers a deeper reflection on the dangers of deception within ourselves and those around us.
David describes these individuals as effortlessly weaving lies, their promises untrustworthy, their actions betraying their smiles. Their strength lies in falsehood, as comfortable with deception as a right-handed person using their dominant hand. He seeks deliverance from such individuals, understanding the harm they can inflict.
Meanwhile, the message takes a crucial turn, urging self-reflection. While we may readily identify the “foreigners” as external threats, are we truly innocent? Are we guilty of hypocrisy, hiding behind a facade of righteousness while harbouring deceit within? While attending church and participating in Christian gatherings, might we still be considered “foreigners” in God’s Kingdom? This introspection challenges our assumptions and compels us to examine our own integrity.
Imagine God examining our hearts. Would He find us as true children, or strangers masquerading as citizens? We may deceive ourselves and others for a while, but judgment day reveals the truth. As Jesus warns in Matthew 7, many will falsely claim His name, only to be rejected because their hearts were never truly aligned with Him.
The call to action is clear: don’t become a “foreigner” even now. Why risk your eternity? We all bear the responsibility to examine our lives and seek genuine alignment with God’s values. Likewise, we must extend the Gospel’s message to others, helping them become true citizens of the Kingdom.
Remaining a stranger until the end would be a tragic mistake. Right now, you have the opportunity to make essential changes. Don’t remain a foreigner, a stranger to God’s grace. Christ offers citizenship to all who believe, inviting them to become His sons and daughters. May God bless you on your journey towards true belonging.
