My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me,
Psalm 22:1-2 NIV
so far from my cries of anguish? My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
by night, but I find no rest.
There are moments in life when the weight of responsibility feels overwhelming and the silence of heaven seems deafening. In such times, God invites us to find comfort in the honest cry of David in Psalm 22. His words mirror the raw emotions of anyone who has ever felt abandoned, unheard, or forgotten by God.
David begins his lament with a heart-wrenching plea: “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?
These verses resonate deeply with anyone who has prayed fervently yet seen no visible sign of an answer. They capture the tension between faith and frustration — the space where we know God is real but struggle to feel His nearness.
Yet, in verse 3, the tone shifts: “Yet You are enthroned as the Holy One; You are the one Israel praises.”
This truth restores perspective. God has not changed. He remains holy, sovereign, and faithful. Even when His silence lingers, His nature does not. The God I preach and believe in is still enthroned, still ruling, and still working behind the scenes. His throne has never been empty, and His promises have never failed.
Though you may not yet see the answers to your prayers, know that heaven is not indifferent. Verse 24 confirms this beautiful truth: “For He has not despised or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one; He has not hidden His face from him but has listened to his cry for help.”
What a comforting assurance! Your circumstances may look uncertain, but God’s faithfulness remains constant. You are not forsaken, despised, or abandoned. The Lord has heard your cry, believe He is already at work — opening doors, sending help, granting wisdom, strengthening your heart, and supplying every need.
Let faith remind your that God’s silence does not mean His absence. When He seems quiet, He is often working in ways unseen, aligning events, preparing hearts, and perfecting His timing. His delays are never denials; they are divine strategies for greater glory.
So, choose to wait with confidence. Receive grace to trust His timing, strength to remain steadfast, and wisdom to discern His hand at work. He will show Himself strong, break barriers, and open doors that you cannot open by yourself. My prayer for you is that He will manifest His will in His perfect time and in His perfect way.
God has heard — and He will answer.
Living It Out
When God feels distant, remember that His silence is not rejection. Keep praying, keep trusting, and keep standing on His promises. Reflect on Psalm 22:24 and remind yourself that He has not hidden His face from you.
Take a few quiet moments today to thank Him for hearing you, even before the answer comes. Then, ask for grace to wait — patiently, faithfully, and joyfully — knowing that His timing is always perfect.
