God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:9 NIV
In our walk of faith, we often celebrate the gift of salvation. Yet in doing so, we can overlook the beautiful purpose behind it. The Apostle Paul explains this clearly in this verse: “God…has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
This verse reveals a profound truth. God has not only called us to be saved; He has called us into an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Salvation is the doorway, but fellowship with Christ is the destination.
While many respond to God’s call and receive salvation, they sometimes neglect to prioritise fellowship. God’s ultimate intention is that we know His Son and allow Him to know us deeply. Our purpose is to walk daily with Jesus in a living, unbroken relationship. When our lives remain rooted in this fellowship, salvation reaches its fullness.
However, if we treat salvation as a pathway to something else—whether blessing, prosperity, or comfort—we risk missing God’s heart. This reminder urges us to examine the foundation of our faith. We must ask: “Am I truly seeking the Giver, or am I more focused on His gifts?”
God’s desire is clear: He calls us to a deep, abiding relationship with Jesus. This fellowship is not an extra benefit of salvation; it is the very essence of our calling. Therefore, our greatest priority must be to cultivate and enjoy this closeness with Christ.
