Remember this! He led his people out singing for joy; his chosen people marched, singing their hearts out! He made them a gift of the country they entered, helped them seize the wealth of the nations so they could do everything he told them — could follow his instructions to the letter. Hallelujah!
Psalm 105:43-45 MSG
The passage emphasises the joy and gratitude of God’s chosen ones as they witness His faithfulness in leading them out of slavery and into a land flowing with abundance. They sing with all their might, celebrating their newfound freedom and the fulfilment of God’s promise. It’s a reminder that God not only rescued them but also empowered them to possess the wealth of the nations, enabling them to carry out His instructions fully.
However, it would be a grave mistake to think that God’s provision and manifestation of blessings give us license to live recklessly or disregard His commands. Just as He expected unwavering dependence on Him during the waiting period, He expects even greater reliance on Him after the manifestation.
Imagine experiencing liberation from bondage. Receiving unearned blessings and inheritances, and then turning away from the very One who made it all possible. That would be a tragic betrayal of God’s faithfulness and a squandering of His gifts.
He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy; he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for— that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the Lord.
Psalm 105:43-45 NIV
NIV reiterates the purpose behind God’s generous provision—to enable His people to keep His precepts and follow His laws. The possession of wealth and abundance is not an end in itself but a means to fulfil God’s commandments.
If the Lord brought you out of slavery and gave you blessings you have not worked for. I’m sure it won’t be too much for you to keep His precepts – following His instructions to the letter. So, let him that is thinking or acting like the prodigal son, repent, lest he falls. Lest he becomes worse than he was. For then, there may not be room for repentance.
So, you people must be careful to do everything the LORD commanded you. Do not stop following God! You must live the way the LORD your God commanded you. Then you will continue to live, and everything will be fine with you. You will live a long life in the land that will belong to you.
Deuteronomy 5:32-33 ERV
As God’s people, we are to faithfully adhere to His commands. This ensures a life of blessing and longevity in the land we possess. Therefore, it is crucial to understand that God’s blessings come with responsibility. As recipients of His grace, we are to faithfully follow His instructions, keeping His precepts and observing His laws. Let us not be like the prodigal son who squandered his inheritance. Instead, let us be grateful and obedient children who honour and cherish the gifts bestowed upon us by our loving Heavenly Father.
