As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.
Mark 1:29-31 NIV
This account is more than a story of physical healing; it holds a deep spiritual principle. The disciples had already witnessed Jesus perform miracles. They knew His authority. Yet they didn’t assume He would act without being told. Instead, they spoke up—they presented the situation to Him. That act of telling is the foundation of today’s encouragement: don’t keep silent.
While Jesus knows everything, He invites us into a relationship where we freely express our hearts. He desires our trust, our voice, and our honesty. Too often, we assume that since Jesus knows our circumstances, there’s no need to say anything. But that silent assumption can become a barrier to deeper intimacy with Him.
When we choose not to keep silent—when we come before Him in prayer, acknowledging our need—we create space for divine intervention. God delights in our dependence on Him. Silence may feel safe, but it is in the act of speaking that faith becomes real. The disciples didn’t hold back, and neither should we.
We all face moments of struggle—whether emotional, physical, financial, or spiritual. In those times, we must remember: never to keep silent. Bring your concerns to Jesus. Speak openly to Him. Lay everything at His feet, not as a last resort but as a first response.
There’s power in your voice when it is lifted in faith. Just as Jesus responded to the disciples’ request, He will respond to you. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His faithfulness has not changed. He is ready to move—but He wants to be invited in.
So, don’t hold back. Don’t keep silent. Call on Him. Trust in Him. Let Him hear your cry, and watch as He reaches out His hand to lift you up.
Living It Out
Are you carrying something heavy today? Don’t keep silent in your struggle. Take a moment—right now—to tell Jesus about it. Speak to Him as the disciples did. Invite Him into the situation. Whether it’s physical healing, emotional weariness, financial pressure, or spiritual dryness, He is able and willing. He just wants you to tell Him. Because He still answers when we call.
