Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
John 14:23-24 NIV
Have you ever asked yourself the question, “Do I love God?” What can you hold as evidence of your love for Him? Perhaps the reason you still struggle with God’s will is because you do not truly love him. Do you know that you still find it difficult to obey His instructions because you only claim to love him with your lips but not from your heart?
Jesus was speaking in John 14:23-24 that if a man truly loves him, he’ll keep His word. So, what is the evidence of your love for Christ? Do you keep his word? Do you obey His instructions? It is easy to move with the congregation and say yes, you love God. However, in the deepest of your heart, do you obey God’s word because of your love for Him? Does your love for Christ come from a genuine heart, or is it just a vain empty word?
So, this is a time to rethink the love we claim to have for Christ and stop deceiving ourselves. This is a time to check your heart to see if you truly love God rather than that job that is taking you away from God. It is time to check if you truly love God more than your ambitions. This is a time to check if you genuinely love Him or if you are just following the crowd.
Meanwhile, loving God is not only about saying it; you show that you love Him when you do whatever He tells you to do, whether it is easy or difficult. Check your heart today to see if you genuinely love Him. It is not too late to return to God in prayer for Him to help you love Him as you ought to.
