Villagers in Israel would not fight; they held back until I, Deborah, arose, until I arose, a mother in Israel.
Judges 5:7 NIV
Deborah served as a judge during a time when the Israelites were oppressed by the Canaanites. Judges in ancient Israel were leaders raised up by God to deliver the people from oppression and to administer justice. People knew her for her wisdom, and they would come to her to settle disputes and seek guidance.
Deborah did not sit in the corner of her house to complain during the oppression. She saw a problem and arose to proffer solutions to it. She did not allow anything to prevent her from rising to establish the counsel of God. Instead, she availed herself for God to use. God desires that we would arise to take our place in His plan. So, we need to stop complaining and arise to bring solutions.
Furthermore, Deborah’s rise to leadership brought about forty years of peace in Israel. Meanwhile, it is important to note that she did not arise in Egypt but in Israel. Her story underscores the importance of rising to the occasion in our current locations – be it within our families, workplaces, or social circles. Arise to proclaim the mind and counsel of Christ. We must proclaim Christ’s teachings and raise His banner high, utilising all available platforms to spread His kingdom.
Although Deborah was not a warrior, she carried the Lord of Host within her. Because of this, she was able to lead the army of Israel through Barak to victory. Her story serves as a reminder to never waver in our faith. We may not always know what the road ahead will look like, but we only need to remember that God will faithfully guide us and lead the way.
Deborah’s story serves as an example of a woman who played a key leadership role during a crucial period in Israel’s history. People remember her for her wisdom, prophetic insight, and courage in times of crisis.
Will you not arise to take charge of your immediate society for God? It is time to know the Lord of Host intimately. By this, we will be able to overcome the wiles of the enemy in this generation adequately. Receive grace not to ignore problems. Pray for a zeal that will not rest until the people of God find rest. Travail in prayer like a mother having birth pangs for a revival in the land.
