Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
Colossians 2:15 NKJV
Christ’s victory on the cross is total. We were once dead in sin, but through His sacrifice, we received new life, producing righteousness in us. Therefore, through this triumph, we have authority over all spiritual powers. Jesus overcame sin, death, and every principality on the cross. This means we now possess the power to live above sin and every power of the enemy.
It is crucial to understand this truth so that the devil cannot oppress us. He takes advantage when we do not know what God has done for us. As Christians, the devil does not have power over us. Christ has given us the ability to live above sin, above the devil, and the world. Therefore, we must continually walk in the consciousness of Jesus’ public display of victory over sin and the flesh. On the cross, He crucified them both, and when He said, “It is finished,” He meant the reign of sin and death in our lives was over.
No spiritual wickedness, whether in high places or elsewhere, has the authority to harm us. When we give our lives to Christ and renounce our old ways, we step into this victory. No power of hell or scheme of man can have authority over us because Christ has disarmed them. We need to live with the understanding that we have the power to lead righteous lives. Let us not be ignorant of the enemy’s schemes. One of his tactics is to deceive us into thinking we are still bound by him. We have been freed in Christ Jesus, and by remaining in Christ, we remain free. Therefore, everything we now do operates within the victory of Christ.
In addition to this, we must continually remind ourselves that Christ’s victory is eternal and unshakable. The sacrifice of Jesus not only covered our past but also empowered our present and future. As we grow in our understanding of this truth, we gain greater boldness to stand firm against every attack of the enemy.
The authority Christ gave us is not theoretical but practical. It equips us to speak against sin, bondage, and fear with confidence, knowing that the same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us. We are not just observers of His victory; we are active participants, called to walk in it daily. This truth should shape our thoughts, decisions, and actions. So, let us walk confidently, fully embracing the authority Christ has given us. And let us be vigilant, understanding that while the enemy may try to deceive, his defeat is permanent.
