Christ’s Return: A Call to Repentance and a Warning

Christ's Return: A Call to Repentance and a Warning - 2 Peter 3:9

This means that, contrary to man’s perspective, the Lord is not late with his promise to return, as some measure lateness. But rather, his “delay” simply reveals his loving patience toward you, because he does not want any to perish but all to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9 TPT

Many years have come and gone, so also many generations. “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”. Several prophets have preached this throughout these generations, even till today. However, many have ignorantly denied the message of the cross. They claim that there’s no kingdom coming; they say Jesus will not return. They are denying that there won’t be any judgment. “If Jesus will come, then why has He not yet come?” – they scoff.

Irrespective of what anyone may say, God’s word stands firm. The Lord is neither slack nor late in His return to bring judgment upon the earth. This is a truth that we must first settle in our hearts and mind, lest we may also err concerning this truth. It was His promise that He would come back to judge the earth, therefore, we can be sure that God can do anything, but fail to keep His promises. He is ever faithful and ever true to His words.

“This message is about a special time in the future. This message is about the end, and it will come true. Just be patient and wait for it. That time will come; it will not be late” (Habakkuk 2:3 ERV). I would like to emphasize at this point that we can be certain that the Lord Jesus will return someday, so let no one deceive you.

Meanwhile, another truth about the Lord’s coming is that when He comes there won’t be any chance for repentance, it would be too late to seek for a change of life then, since He would have come with His judgment. Therefore, it seems no different for anyone who is dead whether Jesus returns soon or later.

“Every human being is appointed to die once, and then to face God’s judgment.”

Hebrews 9:27 TPT

So, every day you wake up to life is simply God revealing His loving-kindness and patience toward you. He does not want you to perish by dying without salvation. God wants you to be saved. Therefore, He is “delaying” the coming of the Lord Jesus – giving you another chance to repent.

Whether you like it or not, the delay of death will not be forever. Not everyone that sees today would be there tomorrow. Therefore, let everyone who is not saved not delay till tomorrow – for tomorrow may never come. Return to God before Christ’s return.
