“And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.”
Exodus 7:5 NIV
In Exodus 7, we witness a divine encounter in which God reminds Moses and Aaron of their sacred assignment—the deliverance of Israel from Egyptian bondage. It is a moment when God not only reaffirms His promise but also reveals His greater intention. They were called for His glory, not their own. The miraculous deliverance was never about showcasing their leadership; it was always about revealing the Lord’s power and sovereignty.
This powerful statement unveils the heart of God’s mission. Yes, He would rescue His people, but beyond that, He would make Himself known. The exodus was a revelation of who God is—a demonstration of His authority not only to Israel, but also to the very nation that oppressed them.
Reflecting on this passage, it becomes clear that Moses and Aaron were never the source of the miracles—they were the vessels. God worked through them, not because of them. Their obedience displayed God’s glory. Their calling never served as a platform for self-glory; they pursued it solely for His glory.
This truth is just as vital for us today. Whenever God calls us—whether to ministry, business, leadership, or service—it is never about self-promotion. It is not a stage for us to shine. Every calling, every assignment, every opportunity is meant to reflect His glory, not elevate our name. The temptation to use God’s platform for personal gain is subtle but dangerous. Had Moses and Aaron been concerned with fame or recognition, they may have forfeited their place in God’s plan.
God revealed His name to the Egyptians through the unwavering faithfulness of the men He chose. In the same way, for those around us to see the Lord through our lives, we must remain obedient. Faithfulness matters. When we remember that He called us for His glory, we stop seeking applause and start seeking alignment with His will, His word, and His purpose.
To walk faithfully with God, we must offer Him our complete allegiance. He desires hearts that are fully surrendered, lives that are yielded, and pure motives. There will always be distractions and opportunities to glorify ourselves. But God’s call remains: be a vessel for His purpose, not your platform.
The calling of God comes with a cost, but it also carries eternal significance. We must be willing to lay down our own ambitions so that He can accomplish His will through us. Our obedience is not about earning His love—it is about revealing His nature to a world that desperately needs Him.
Let us never forget:
It is not about me.
It is not for me.
It is for Him—His glory, His name, and His will.
Living It Out
Are you walking in something God has placed in your hands—whether a ministry, project, role, or relationship? Pause and reflect: Do your motives align with heaven? Is your heart seeking God’s glory or your own success?
Ask the Lord to purify your heart and deepen your surrender. Recommit to being a vessel He can use—not for your honour, but for the honour of His name.
Let your journey, your obedience, and your service be a declaration that you were called for His glory.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
