Yet grace [God’s undeserved favour] was given to each one of us [not indiscriminately, but in different ways] in proportion to the measure of Christ’s [rich and abundant] gift.
Ephesians 4:7 AMP
It is important that we are reminded of the worth of the grace of God which we have received and are being compelled to keep. This is because when the worth of a thing is not known, the abuse of it is inevitable. This grace is not what we deserve, like a worker deserving a wage.
We were spiritually dead. Therefore, we could not even do any ‘work’ that would have make us deserving of God’s grace. But God saved us by grace which He lavished upon us – He gave us a new life (See Ephesians 2:5). In giving, He never discriminates, neither is He partial nor show favouritism, rather, He gave us this grace freely and in abundance, and He gave to all.
Given the immense blessing we have received, we have no grounds for boasting in this grace. Instead, we should humbly accept the position and responsibilities determined by this grace, wholeheartedly and with grateful obedience. This grace we have received is the wrapping that holds precious gifts, equipping us for meaningful contributions in God’s divine agenda.
Just as grace varies, so do the gifts it encapsulates. Therefore, we must guard against jealousy towards others. Each gift serves a unique purpose, and together, they create a harmonious symphony of divine expression. Instead, we should gratefully utilise the gift that God has bestowed upon us. We are called to be faithful stewards of our unique gifts.
These spiritual gifts are not random or haphazardly distributed; rather, they are intentionally assigned by God who knows us intimately. He tailors these gifts to suit our individual callings and to impact the world around us. By recognising and embracing the gifts we have been given, we unlock the potential to impact lives and build up the body of Christ.
